Stone replacements, Salisbury Tower

Salisbury Tower, Windsor - Specialist Subcontractors for SSH Conservation

Salisbury Tower underwent a large programme of works on its façade; several stone replacements were carried out as well as some stone fixing to the crenelations. The replacement stones and indents were worked onsite by hand. Soft limestone allowed the use of hand saws and drags for accurate waste removal and surface finishing with minimal airborne dust. Templets were produced onsite and brought to the banker shop for applying onto the stones.

These stones were fixed on a lime putty and sand mortar; stones were pointed and grouted to ensure no air pockets remained. Adjacent stones were joined together using stainless steel dowels embedded in lime mortars.
